Workshop Facilitators: Aaloka Kanhere and Pooja Lokhande from Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education
This workshop aims at teachers engaging in hands-on activities and making materials for a Mathematics Laboratory in their school. The main objective of this session is to provide hands-on learning opportunities for the participants and, also enable the teacher to demonstrate, explain and reinforce abstract mathematical ideas by using concrete objects, models, charts, graphs, pictures, posters, etc.
In the workshop, we will be making teaching-learning materials, mostly for primary and middle school. We also make mathematics activities to encourage mathematical thinking among students.
The session tries to provide an opportunity to understand and internalize the basic mathematical concepts through concrete objects and situations and also enables the participants to verify or discover several geometrical properties and facts using models or by paper cutting and folding techniques.
